A leaf blower can help keep debris away from a pool, but it should move leaves away from the water, not blast dirt, fertiliser and dust into it. The best solution combines the pool surrounds, skimmer, baskets and the right cleaner.

How to use a leaf blower around a pool

1. Work when the surrounds are dry and the wind is light.
2. Start near the pool edge and direct debris away from the water.
3. Use a lower speed near loose mulch, potting mix and gravel.
4. Avoid blowing close to skimmer lids, equipment vents and electrical controls.
5. Collect the pile rather than moving it into garden beds where it can blow back.
